The Journal of Cycle Coaches said this about the benefits of a carb / protein drink:
Quote 1: The latest research indicates that carbohydrate-protein drinks taken during exercise can help reduce muscle damage and reduce muscle mass loss, accelerate recovery and improve performance, especially during bouts of consecutive training.
Quote 2: Compared to a carbohydrate only drink, a carbohydrate- protein drink lowered protein (muscle) breakdown rates by 26% and raised protein synthesis (muscle building) by 33%
WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE
The whey protein isolate in 4:1 is the very highest quality. The Food & Agricultural Organisation have an internationally recognised method to compare the quality of various proteins. This is known as the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS). An ideal protein will have a PDCAAS score of 1.0. The Protein used in 4:1 has a even higher score of 1.14. It’s also high in Leucine, an amino acid which triggers muscle growth and repair.
Dosage & Usage
If you don’t intend to use 4:1 for all of your training, it is particularly useful if you anticipate a big step-change in mileage, such as a training camp. It’s also fantastic for multi-day endurance racing, as the carbohydrate content is standard 2:1 fructose EnergySource, which provides exceptional carbohydrate delivery. 4:1 contains a high level of key electrolytes. It can provide fast hydration as compared to a normal sports drink. The electrolyte levels should be adequate for most race conditions. However, if you use 4:1 or racing over long distances in very hot conditions, you may wish to add one ZERO (Neutral) tab to 500ml of 4:1 for an even higher level of electrolytes and as part of an anti-cramp strategy.
